The project uses community-based education and tracks changes in women’s knowledge and practices. Breast cancer and HIV outcomes: We are studying how the immune response inside breast tumors differs between women with and without HIV. This research uses biopsy samples from women in Western Uganda to better understand why outcomes may be worse in women living with HIV and to guide future treatments. Path of Logic is responsible for the study designs, data management, and analysis of both projects in collaboration with the study team on-site in Mbarara, Uganda. Both studies are approved by the ethics committee of the Mbarara University of Science and Technology. The clinic focuses on building local capacity to streamline diagnosis, staging, and the use of special stains. Previously, most biopsies were performed through open surgeries, limiting the number of women who could be diagnosed and often resulting in mishandled tissue and compromised diagnoses.
